Stone Dry
// JAN 2025

Stone Dry is a community-driven platform designed to support individuals seeking sober social events and mental wellness resources. Through extensive user research and collaboration with the Stone Dry team, we identified a need for a space that fosters connection, recovery, and meaningful engagement.

I worked with a team of designers to craft an intuitive and visually engaging experience that allows users to discover events, connect with like-minded individuals, and track their progress in a supportive environment

Problem StatementHow might we create an engaging and inclusive digital space for individuals in recovery to connect, find support, and participate in sober social events?
01. User Research
We first began by asking the client for a list of potential interview participants from the Stone Dry community and sending out user surveys via google forms and then conducting 2:1 virtual interviews.

Insights From Interview:
“I think seeing inspirational or faith-based motivational quotes on the app would be helpful.”

-- Stone Dry Board Member (Has family members going through sobriety)

“I appreciate that Stone Dry tackles sobriety from a different angle, and I like that it is faith based.”

-- Stone Dry Member experiencing the sobriety journey

Key Features:
    1. Find Meetings
    2. Registering for Events
    3. Tracking Milestones
    4. Accessing Recovery Resources

User Personas:

We designed and mapped out user flows to ensure that key actions within the main features are intuitive, seamless, and efficient.

Design System
Low/Mid Fidelity Wireframes :
After the designing of the low/mid-fidelity wireframes, we showcased them to the client and received feedback for further improvements. Using the feedback that was received, we refined the app’s navigation, UI elements, and features to enhance the overall experience and match the needs of the client.

Few Insights from Client:
1. Incorporating an optional questionnaire in the signup page to allow for client to better understand the users. 2. For the group registration feature, incorporate a place where there is a detailed description on what the group is about for participants to fully understand.
3. Updating the UI for the events page to make it easier to navigate and minimalistic for users. 4. Allow there to be a share feature for the resources and events.

04. Prototype

The homepage shows a brief checkpoint for the users sobriety journey as well as registered, upcoming, past events, and saved resoures for easy access.

The events page is separated into an ‘All Events’ and ‘My Events’ section. After you register for an event, it’ll show up in your my events page.

Another feature incorporated within the events page is a calendar view for users to better envision their schedules.

The milestone tracker lists out all the user’s sobriety journey information for them to better track their process.

The resources page provides a list of resources for the user to click through and contact.

05. User Testing / Next Steps

We conducted usability testing with 15 members that are part of the Stone Dry community.

The testing revealed that users appreciated the event-centered design and ease of navigation. They also enjoyed the milestone tracking feature as they believe it would benefit them throughout the process. Organizers highlighted the need for better event customization options, while community members expressed interest in more interactive features to foster connections beyond events.

Based on the feedbacks, my next steps include:

  • Improving event customization through incorporating more flexible options for hosts to personalize event pages.
  • Enhancing community engagement through possibility creating discussion forums or chat features
